Before the bye, the Falcons were two games under .500 and in danger of letting the season slip away. In the two games since, they’ve gotten back to .500, back atop the NFC South, and back to hoping this is a playoff season.
This is another big game in a series of them for Atlanta, with huge divisional stakes. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost six of their last eight games and juuuust got by the Carolina Panthers last week, but they’re a win away from taking back the division from Atlanta. If the Falcons win, however, they’re 4-0 in the division, have a two game lead and the all-important head-to-head tiebreaker on Tampa Bay, and have a very clear path to the South. This and the second Saints game are the two big-ticket, big-stakes matchups left, though every game matters with the division still likely to come down to the wire.
Atlanta will have to conjure up a much better offensive performance than we saw against the Jets—that shouldn’t be difficult—and the defense will have to continue to shine to earn the victory. Let’s see if they can manage it at home.
We’ll round up all our coverage for the week right here in this StoryStream, so keep it open!
