Falcons v. Panthers inactives: Chris Lindstrom out, Panthers with only four WRs

There isn’t much on the line for the Carolina Panthers for Sunday’s tilt against the Atlanta Falcons. Frank Reich has already been fired, with more change certain to come as Carolina undergoes yet another rebuild (of uncertain severity). The Panthers are out of the playoffs, everyone is getting fired anyways, so a win at home doesn’t do a whole lot.

For the Falcons, there is much more at stake. Arthur Smith is reportedly “safe” for 2024, with the caveat that things can’t collapse down the stretch. One good way for a collapse? Losing to the lowly Panthers. Further, the Falcons are still in the playoff race in the miserable NFC South. A playoff berth should lock up Smith’s continued employment.

The bad news? The Falcons have been dealing with injuries. Storm Norton was already filling in for an injured Kaleb McGary. Defensive tackle David Onyemata was also previously ruled out, leaving the Falcons very light up the middle with Grady Jarrett on IR.

The official inactives, below, are full of big names and starters.

  • WR Mack Hollins
  • OL Kaleb McGary
  • OG Chris Lindstrom
  • DL David Onyemata
  • OLB Bud Dupree
  • TE John FitzPatrick
  • QB Logan Woodside

In addition to McGary and Onyemata, the Falcons are down its only pseudo-pass rusher in Bud Dupree. Mack Hollins’ absence will again hurt Atlanta’s wide receiver depth (meaning, hey, start Drake London in your fantasy playoffs). The biggest news, however, is Lindstrom is still out. Typically Atlanta’s best offensive lineman, and a big component in Atlanta’s run game, that’s a tough injury to overcome. Atlanta’s offensive line, a strength earlier in the season, is limping into the end of the year.

That may prove to be very problematic considering Sunday’s weather conditions.

For the Panthers, Carolina has only four wide receiver suiting up. However, if you want a look at why Carolina has been struggling, even though it has a number of injuries, few players are notable. This is a bad team, missing the following players:

  • CB D’Shawn Jamison
  • OLB Eku Leota
  • OT David Sharpe
  • TE Ian Thomas
  • WR Mike Strachan
  • WR Terrace Marshall Jr.
