The NFC East has not been a source of great football in recent years, with only the Eagles, occasionally the Cowboys and last year Washington really making any noise at all. Some years, it’s been arguably the worst division top-to-bottom in football, and it looks once again like it’ll be a two-team race at best.
That’s partly because Washington now finds itself down a starting quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick is on the shelf and Taylor Heinicke steps in, which is at least somewhat of a downgrade and might limit Washington’s offensive upside in 2021. Their defense is still quite good and they’re overall an intriguing team, but we’ll have to get a measure of how well they can endure that loss pretty quickly here because they’re already 0-1.
Ditto the Giants, who have been bad for a while now and still seem like the odds-on favorites to finish in the basement of the division. The Giants are not without talent, but they have a work-in-progress offensive line and plenty of holes on both sides of the ball. This is a divisional game so it might wind up being wildly entertaining, but Washington still should win even with Heinicke in.
