Falcons vs. Eagles: Who was the defensive player of the game?

Is there anything to feel good about after this ugly loss?

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Atlanta Falcons Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons gave up 32 points. Granted, 3 of those came in absolute junk time, but that also means 29 were scored when it mattered. I sorted through a pile of garbage looking for players who stood out on offense and I basically had to dive through toxic waste and a lake full of piranhas for the defense, but we’ve got our list.

The candidates

A.J. Terrell

The second year corner did not get his name called much on Sunday and that’s probably a small victory for a Falcons team that got punched in the mouth, kicked in the gut and suffered a concussion after facing the Eagles. He registered 6 tackles, looked physical and was not frequently targeted, so that’s something.

Jacob Tuioti-Mariner

He got the lone sack of the day for the Falcons and had his moments, and on a day where Atlanta gave up 32 points and the pass rush just didn’t get home all that often, that’s also something.

Grady Jarrett

There were only a few standout moments in this one, and Jarrett certainly had one with a great chasedown of Jalen Hurts that stopped a drive cold. He’s still the team’s best defender and he’ll have better weeks, but even on a quieter day Jarrett’s good for a play like that.

All things come to an end. Ice cream. Hopes and dreams. Falcons games. Thank god the latter hit because I wasn’t sure any of us were going to make it.
