Falcons reportedly adding K Elliott Fry to practice squad

Fry played for the Falcon a year ago, too.

The Falcons worked out a few specialists recently, prompting more than a few fans to wonder if they might be adding an emergency option for kicker, punter or long snapper to the practice squad. They’ll reportedly try to address two of those with on signing, bringing back familiar face Elliott Fry.

Fry joined the Falcons practice squad in October of last year and actually got into one game, making a field goal and one of two extra point tries against the Packers. He then spent the rest of the year on the practice squad and was signed to a reserve/future contract in January, sticking around until the new regime waived him in May. Now he’s back to serve as an insurance policy for Younghoe Koo and Cameron Nizialek.

No offense to Fry, but I hope we don’t see him on the active roster this year, given the implications of that happening. It’s a good pickup for Atlanta, though, as the team is already familiar with him, he was solid enough in his lone appearance a year ago, and as Pelissero notes, he’s versatile enough to fill more than one role. We’ll see who’s leaving the practice squad to make way for him soon enough when the team makes this official.

Welcome back, Elliott Fry!
