Today’s Mercedes-Benz Falcons practice is the last public day of training camp

Hopefully you’re getting to go if you haven’t already, because we’re on to closed practices and preseason soon.

The first Falcons training camp with Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith at the helm of the Falcons is one with only a small number of public practices, though they’ve been lively one. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check one out in person and you’re reasonably local, today is the last day.

It’s at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and there are still tickets available, at least as of the time I’m writing this on Friday night, so if you’re hoping to go there’s still a chance.

As ESPN’s Mike Rothstein noted, it won’t be a mock game or full-team scrimmage like Friday Night Lights used to be, but another practice with “a lot of team drills and some situational work.” Atlanta just got Dante Fowler back and he’ll be back practicing, so it’s your first real opportunity to see a player the Falcons hope will be one of their top pass rushers in 2021. There’s also a slew of impressive rookies, a version of Matt Ryan working on speed and the great Calvin Ridley, so there’s no shortage of Falcons-related eye candy if you’re into that sort of thing. If you miss out, well, we are a week away from preseason, where you’ll see plenty of young players but very little of the likes of Ryan, Mike Davis or Ridley.

You’ll also be able to get vaccinated at practice today if you haven’t already. I personally got the two shots of Pfizer back in May and have had zero ill effects, far less than I’ve suffered watching the Falcons all these years.

If you’re attending, look for our own David Walker, who will be sharing his observations later today. Enjoy, Falcons fans!
