The preseason finale quickly approaches! Read on for roster battle content and more in Friday’s Falcoholinks.
Now’s the time
Atlanta enters its final preseason game on Sunday, taking on the Cleveland Browns at The Benz — a game where coach Arthur Smith says he intends to play ”everybody.” While the third preseason game is traditionally the dress rehearsal for the starters, the shortened preseason schedule has made things a bit murkier.
But there are some positional battles that need to be settled. There are spots up in the air on offense, and likewise on defense — and Sunday should prove a deciding factor.
This is the time for the UDFAs to establish themselves and prove they deserve to crack the final 53.
Falcons sign QB Josh Rosen
Josh Rosen has experienced a raw-deal-whirlwind since he was drafted 10th in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he hasn’t really impressed in any capacity on the field with the opportunities he’s been granted.
So, naturally, he’s been signed by the Atlanta Falcons.
Rosen joins the backup competition with Feleipe Franks, and he’ll have a chance to make his case against the Browns on Sunday.
A flurry of moves
Along with signing Josh Rosen, the Falcons announced a number of cuts — the most surprisingly of which was running back Javian Hawkins. They also announced yesterday that kicker Sterling Hofrichter had been released from injured reserve.
