Rice WR coach Mike Kershaw on Falcons UDFA Austin Trammell

There have been a number of interesting storylines to come out of the first few days of Falcons Training Camp, but one of the best ones has been the emergence of UDFA WR Austin Trammell. A relatively unheralded player from Rice University, Trammell appeared in just 3 games in 2020 due to an injury and a COVID-shortened season. That caused him to slip under the radar in the 2021 NFL Draft despite his impressive production: 20.9 yards per catch and 6 TDs.

To get the full picture of Trammell from someone who knows him well, I sat down with Rice wide receivers coach and punt return coach Mike Kershaw. We discussed Trammell’s history and production at Rice, his skillset, athleticism, and ideal NFL role, his role models, his special teams ability, and a whole lot more. Kershaw also gave some insight into Trammell as a person, including his nickname: “The Sheriff”.
