NFL: Tennessee Titans at Atlanta Falcons Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Falcons first game of the preseason was at home to face the Tennessee Titans. Unsurprisingly, Julio Jones didn’t even make the trip while starters like Matt Ryan, Calvin Ridley and Hayden Hurst didn’t even dress. While Kyle Pitts did dress out with the other rookies, he didn’t play a snap in the game.

So, what did we learn? Evan Birchfield joined me to recap this first game and talk about who stood out and what we can actually take away from a game full of backups. Topics include:

  • The disappointing performance of potential starter Josh Andrews and why the team may need to look for a different option for that left guard spot if this continues
  • The punt returner competition and why Avery Williams has the lead right now
  • Why special teams performances may be the ones we can actually read something into
  • The competition for backup QB and why the athleticism and big arm of Feleipe Franks may give him a slight edge now
  • The battle at running back for that last spot and who is currently in the lead
  • Standout performances from Dorian Etheridge and Jaylinn Hawkins and why they matter
  • So much more
