The NFL preseason is a mix of promise and devastation. For each undrafted free agent that makes a positive impression and pushes for a spot on the final 53, there are the hopefuls who fail to impress and find their dreams come to a quick end. It’s the worst part of the preseason.
The first round of cuts is just 5 players and the Falcons are ahead of the curve slightly, announcing that they’ve waived four of the mandatory five already.
The Falcons have waived/injured WR J'Mon Moore and have waived DL John Atkins, CB Marcus Murphy and OL William Sweet.

While most of these guys weren’t lighting up camp or gaining the adoration of fans, it’s still somewhat surprising to see former UGA player John Atkins get cut this quickly. The Falcons defensive line is full of question marks and Atkins certainly looked the part. It appears that players like Jonathan Bullard have passed him on the depth chart.
The team still has to waive one more player before the next preseason game, so stayed tuned to The Falcoholic for that name when it breaks.
