Update July 12, 9:26 a.m.: Mingo’s lead attorney slammed Atlanta’s “rush to judgment” in cutting his client, which you’d both expect him to say and is sort of undercut by the fact that every NFL team has done the exact same thing when charges of any seriousness land for non-star players.
Chris Lewis, the lead counsel for former Falcons’ LB Barkevious Mingo, called the accusation of indecency against his client, “a lie.”

Update July 11, 1:17 a.m.: The Falcons have terminated Mingo's contract.
Update July 10, 9:35 PM: SI was able to confirm more details. Content warning: This story contains graphic details of an alleged sexual assault. If you want to read about the details, SI covered it here.
Original story below
The Falcons signed former first-round pick and current journeyman linebacker Barkevious Mingo this offseason, and now we’ll wait and see how long he remains on Atlanta’s roster. Mingo posted a $25k bond in Tarrant County, Texas, this week in a case where he’s been accused of indecency with child sexual contact, per Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith.
Those are all the details we have at the moment. Pro Football Talk received the following statement from the Falcons.
Our organization became aware of the allegations involving Barkevious Mingo today and are currently gathering information on this incident. The Falcons take the allegations very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation.
Needless to say, the accusation is horrifying. Mingo’s constitutional rights guarantee his innocence in the eyes of the law until proven guilty through the judicial system, and we don’t have any details beyond the amount of the bond and actual offense he’s been accused of, so speculation would be irresponsible.
But the NFL’s personal conduct policy is deliberately broad and gives the league and teams leverage to suspend or part ways with a player whose actions and choices can harm the team’s and/or the league’s image. What Mingo has been accused of certainly fits that bill. A suspension pending investigation or Mingo landing on the Commissioner’s exempt list wouldn’t be surprising.
We’ll monitor this story and continue to cover any updates right here.
Update: Arlington Police provided an update, however, there was not much new in their statement.
Arlington police released this information about Falcons defensive end Barkevious Mingo, who was arrested today on one count of Indecency with a Child - Sexual Contact.
