Kyle Pitts is a talent NFL evaluators drooled over, and he made history by going at No. 4 in the 2021 NFL Draft to the Atlanta Falcons. The team vowed to go with the best player available and shunned those of us who thought they might try to address their long-term quarterback situation with the selection, electing instead to push for contention with Matt Ryan in the here and now and giving both Ryan and (hopefully) his eventual successor a tight end who could be a lethal weapon for a long, long time.
Where you stand on this selection likely depends on whether you viewed Pitts, tackle Penei Sewell, or Justin Fields as the best pick at No. 4. Again, Pitts was generally the draft community’s best player available and a buzzed-about choice for NFL front offices, though many analysts preferred a Fields pick for Atlanta. The Falcons are betting on Pitts being the kind of generational tight end his college track record and astonishing athleticism suggest he can be, and both Sewell and Fields wound up falling a bit. Even if you’re ultimately a Pitts skeptic, the fact that he’s landing with one of the biggest fans of the tight end position in the NFL in Arthur Smith can’t possibly hurt.
With a few hours to chew over this pick and Pitts’ potential impact in Atlanta, how are you feeling about it? Give us your thoughts using the poll below, understanding that we will not hold you to your snap judgement in four years, and knowing we have yet to see what the full Falcons draft class will look like.
