NFL legal tampering begins today

What might the Falcons do with it?

Atlanta can officially start tampering with free agents today, in about two hours. It’s all very legal!

This is likely to kick off what will pass for a free agent frenzy for the Falcons, and if we’re going to get any concrete rumors ahead of the official start of free agency at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, they’ll start rolling in today. At minimum, it’s fair to expect Atlanta to sort things out with their restricted free agents (Matt Gono and Brandon Powell) before then, and carve out just enough cap space to make moves of some kind. It’s been a fairly slow, quiet offseason in Atlanta after the sweeping changes to the front office, but that may well change when the Falcons can start reaching out to free agents and trying to bring them in.

My expectation is that we’ll see Gono re-signed, Powell will move on, and we might get some whispers of the Falcons sniffing around mid-tier free after they free up some more space.

Let’s see if today brings anything interesting.
