Whew. That was a wild Sunday. Fortunately, the Falcons were able to avoid disaster and a dreadfully embarrassing collapse against their hated rival. We’ve got a recap from the game and more in today’s Falcoholinks.
Falcons - Saints recap
The Falcons were forced into comeback mode in the fourth quarter by allowing the Saints to gain the lead in what appeared to be a blowout, but ultimately the Falcons were able to seal a win on the road against their archrival.
Matt Ryan, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Younghoe Koo all came up big in the final drive — the latter kicking the game-winning field goal as time expired.
None of us were confident that the Falcons would take home a victory in New Orleans, but they surprised all of us by knocking off the (then) 5-2 Saints on the road. The win adds to Atlanta’s slim advantage over New Orleans in the all-time series, and brings the Falcons back to .500 and in the playoff conversation.
Injuries
The Falcons did not exit New Orleans without a couple of injuries. The first of the game came near the end of the second quarter, as cornerback/special teamer Kendall Sheffield pulled up while in punt coverage. He was ruled out shortly thereafter with a hamstring injury.
Defensive lineman Stephen Means left the game with a knee injury in the fourth quarter and was ruled out. The injury came after scooping James Vaughters’ forced fumble and attempting to take it all the way for a touchdown.
