A wild week comes to a close as the Falcons begin to round out the new coaching staff. We have news and notes on that topic as well as other stories you may have missed in today’s edition of Falcoholinks.

Filling out the coaching staff

It’s been a whirlwind few days for the Atlanta Falcons, first with the hiring of new head coach Arthur Smith and new general manager Terry Fontenot. With those hires comes more new hires to complete the coaching staff, and yesterday the Falcons brought in new special teams coordinator Marquice Williams.

The team moved quickly after that initial hire, inking Bears’ passing game coordinator Dave Ragone as OC, and former Titans defensive coordinator Dean Pees as DC.

They’re also expected to bring in current Bears running backs coach Charles London to coach the quarterbacks.

With the new arrivals, the Falcons also announced a slate of coaches who would not be retained — including Dirk Koetter.

Potential Saints free agents

With the arrival of new GM Terry Fontenot comes a new vision for the Atlanta Falcons, and that includes a new approach to free agency. So if Fontenot is going to bring in a few veteran free agents, why not look into his former backyard?

Comp picks

We love compensatory picks, and Over The Cap is projecting that the Falcons could wind up with three of them in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Post-2020 positional review: Centers

The Falcons may have drafted Alex Mack’s heir-apparent in offensive lineman Matt Hennessy, but the outlook at the center position is far from certain.
