We have to wait until tomorrow to see if the Buccaneers can bump off the Saints and allow the Falcons to make their hiring of new general manager Terry Fontenot official, but that doesn’t mean that Divisional Round Saturday lacks for intrigue.
First up in about a half and hour, we’ll be looking at Packers versus Rams. Green Bay has gone from a struggling, listless team under Mike McCarthy to a juggernaut under Matt LaFleur, who has gone from hyped assistant on Kyle Shanahan’s staff to one of the league’s better young coaches. They’ll match up against another vaunted young coach in Sean McVay, who will have to lean on Brandon Staley’s terrific defense featuring muscle-bound warlock Aaron Donald, given that Jared Goff is banged up and ineffective. I’d expect the Packers to win this one and win it pretty handily, but the Rams have spent the entire year beating the odds.
The second game starts at 8:15 and features the Bills and Ravens. Buffalo has made a habit out of chewing up great defenses this year, a habit that has vaulted Josh Allen into the upper echelon of NFL quarterbacks and may get Brian Daboll a head coaching job with the Chargers. The Ravens, though, just finished stomping a Titans team that surprised them in the playoffs a year ago, and they figure to be a handful with Lamar Jackson being one of the league’s most dangerous players and their defense consistently salting away games.
Watch both games and use this as your open thread. Go whichever team can beat the winner of Bucs-Saints!
