Falcons release WR Laquon Treadwell

In March, the Atlanta Falcons were looking to add another receiving option to their already talented offense. They signed former first-round pick Laquon Treadwell, who spent the previous four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

It’s safe to say that Treadwell was a bust for the Vikings, as he only scored two touchdowns in 53 games and was even released by the team last season before they eventually brought him back. On Saturday afternoon, as part of the Falcons task of dropping the roster to 53 players, the team released Treadwell, and he wasn’t pleased with the camp reports about him struggling in camp.

Unfortunately for us, all we can do is take the word of those who were allowed to view Falcons camp from afar. Multiple reports were that Treadwell was dropping passes and struggling in the offense, which sounds similar to his time in Minnesota.

Overall, the Falcons wide receiver group is starting to take shape. We know Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Russell Gage are safe. Behind them are Olamide Zaccheaus, Christian Blake, Devin Gray, Brandon Powell, Juwan Green and Jalen McCleskey. Some more moves will be made here, and it was surprising to see undrafted rookie Chris Rowland cut, as he was a presumed favorite for kick return duties. Whether the team makes a move such as bringing back Mohamed Sanu, or they just keep who they currently have, we’ll know sooner than later as the 4PM deadline quickly approaches.
