Well, that was embarrassing. There aren’t really words to fairly describe or reliable methods to accurately quantify the frustration this team generates. It’s inexplicable, and it’s tired. At this point, Dan Quinn should be relieved of his duties such that a wholesale reset of the coaching staff and front office can get underway as soon as possible. But that won’t happen, because Arthur Blank will hold out hope of a miraculous turnaround and we’ll be forced to endure more of this maddening mediocrity.
Meanwhile, the Falcons literally flipped the script and added injury to insult today. A number of players were knocked out of the game, at least one with an injury that’s going to necessitate missed time. Let’s break down some injuries.
Takk McKinley was hit with a questionable designation during the first half after injuring or tweaking his groin. Damontae Kazee battled through a shoulder injury. Ricardo Allen got backup snaps during Week 1 and then suffered an elbow injury that knocked him out of the game. Allen missed the entire second half.
Foye Oluokun was having quite the game before exiting during the first half with a hamstring injury. Foye forced Ezekiel Elliot to fumble just over 5 minutes into the first quarter and forced Dalton Schultz to fumble just under 11 minutes into the first quarter. That defense felt Olukon’s absence, as the Cowboys exploited a lack of reliable depth at the position.
Deion Jones says the defense definitely missed Foye Oluokun once he had to leave the game due to injury. Oluokun remained engaged on the sideline with his teammates, however.

Second year right tackle Kaleb McGary went down with a non-contact left knee injury during the first half. He had to be carted off the field and it was reported after the game that he suffered an MCL sprain. That puts Matt Gono on the field as a starter, which isn’t the end of the world but is a less than ideal arrangement at right tackle.
It’s worth keeping an eye on Julio Jones’ hamstring. It was clearly bothering him today, and he acknowledged that it limited him today in his post-game comments. Julio got treatment on the sideline at one point and came up limp one play before the dropped pass from Russell Gage, who threw a nearly perfect ball in the wildcat formation.
Quinn was relatively confident about how each of these guys would bounce back, or at least that’s what his post-game comments would lead you to believe.
Dan Quinn says the Falcons are hopeful none of the injuries from today are long-term injuries. Will provide more updates tomorrow.
