Please forgive me for writing this article. All things considered, we shouldn’t be talking about anything positive for the Falcons defense. They gave up 38 points. At home. Yet, here we are looking for the silver lining in a cloud full of crap and frustration.
Here are some choices that aren’t that bad and that may make you unreasonably optimistic for the next game.
Grady Jarrett
Honestly, this guy is going to have his name on the list almost every single week. He’s a true game wrecker and that continued to be true on Sunday. With 1.5 sacks on the game, Jarrett was a constant force on the defense. He terrorized the interior of the Seattle offensive line and probably kept them from scoring 50 or more. He deserves to have a better defense around him.
Takkarist McKinley
For the first time in a while, Takk looked like an absolute freak. It’s not his fault the Seahawks were able to lean on the run so much in the second half. He had 5 pressures in the first half with a sack and that still doesn’t explain how disruptive he was. If he can keep this up, the Falcons may feel compelled to offer him a long-term deal. He was that good.
Dante Fowler Jr.
Considering who he was replacing, Fowler looked like a god-send. He and Grady combined on a sack and Fowler showed that he is a complete defensive end by also contributing as a competent run stopper.
Deion Jones
He lead the Falcons in tackles on the afternoon with 6 and 1 tackle for loss. Debo has very little help at his position and yet he continues to produce. His speed and nose for the ball was on display at points on Sunday and it’s nice to see him flying around the ball again.
