The Falcons lost badly to the Seahawks and even with 3 receivers passing 100 yards, they only managed to put up 25 points with several of those coming in garbage time. Yet, this is a team that seems like it could turn it on at any point and legitimately decimate another team if they truly wanted to.
So, with that in mind, here are our candidates for offensive player of the game.
Matt Ryan
The franchise QB looked calm, cool and collected for much of the game, even if a few of his passes were slightly off-target. Ryan went 37/54 for 450 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 garbage interception. He also moved to 9th on the all-time passing yardage list, passing John Elway on his way to the top 5. He didn’t have his best game, but it’s hard to argue with a QB who goes for over 400 yards in game 1.
Julio Jones
The future hall of fame receiver only pulled in 9 receptions for 157 yards, which is legendary for most players but feels pedestrian for this beast of a man. Jones wasn’t able to punch in a touchdown, but his presence was felt as always.
Calvin Ridley
Ridley was able to pull in 9 receptions as well for 130 yards and the only 2 passing touchdowns on the day. He is turning into a very dangerous option for this Falcons offense and he could end up having a season that is only rivaled by a true All-Start starting across from him.
Russell Gage
Talk about carving out a role! Gage was expected to take a next step, but this is something else. He matched both Jones and Ridley with 9 receptions and took his for an impressive 114 yards. It’s clear that Ryan likes him as a target and he’s showing he deserves that trust so far. He could be a very dangerous WR3 for this team for 2020.
