Thursday Night Football Week 1: Talk about Texans-Chiefs as we welcome the 2020 season

It’s a new season, but the Chiefs will try to put their stamp on it immediately.

NFL: AFC Divisional Round-Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL season is here. We don’t have to wait any more hours or days or weeks or months to enjoy actual football, and given that we weren’t 100% sure we were going to get here, it’s all the more sweet.

This is a great matchup on paper, and the relative quality of it should tell us just how sloppy NFL football is going to be in the early going this year. The Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champion, a juggernaut with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, an extremely talented rookie back in Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and speed for days in the receiving corps and at tight end. Houston is led by the great Deshaun Watson and a good roster overall, despite Bill O’Brien’s best efforts at sabotage, and the Texans will be looking for revenge after the Chiefs sort of humiliated them in the playoffs in early 2020, which might as well be 2010 given how long ago it seems to be.

Enjoy the game right here. Football’s back, baby!
