Training camp is underway, so we have some requisite links to start your Thursday. Dive in, Falcoholics.
Over/Under: Russell Gage’s receiving yards
Russell Gage enters the coming season as Atlanta’s presumed WR3, filling a role vacated by Mohamed Sanu when he was traded to the New England Patriots last year. He’s established a reputation for being a solid short yardage receiver, so with our Over/Under offseason series in mind, will he eclipse 520 receiving yards?
COVID activations and a waive
The Falcons are slowly but surely getting their players back off of the reserve/COVID-19 list, as backup quarterback Danny Etling, linebacker Foye Oluokun, and safety Jaylinn Hawkins have all rejoined the team.
Defensive tackle Tyeler Davison, another Falcon on the reserve/COVID-19 list, also returned on Wednesday afternoon. That leaves only fullback Keith Smith and safety Jamal Carter left to clear protocol.
Along with the return of Davison, the Falcons announced they had waived linebacker Ahmad Thomas.
It’s no secret that the Atlanta Falcons are lacking in the quarterback pressure department, and it’s an area that they must address to succeed in the upcoming season. The addition of Dante Fowler Jr. on the edge and Marlon Davison on the interior should bolster the effectiveness of their blitz packages — at least on paper.
Player profile: Qadree Ollison
Qadree Ollison’s place among the running back corps is undetermined heading into the 2020 NFL season. He’s a bit of a wildcard. Entering his second year in the league, Ollison does present upside as a power back and goal line threat, but with that role already filled by offseason addition Todd Gurley, it remains to be seen where Qadree Ollison will fit.
