It’s nearly Friday, which means you can use a decent portion of your Thursday morning to peruse today’s Falcoholinks. Read on for training camp notes and more.

Note pads

The Falcons donned pads for the first time on Tuesday, and there were some interesting notes after their first padded practice of the offseason.

Highlights include rookie linebacker Mykal Walker snagging an interception and first-round pick A.J. Terrell continuing to impress.

Jamon Brown in concussion protocol

Offensive lineman Jamon Brown was already going to need to put together a very strong camp to earn the left guard spot outright, and his aim to secure the position hit a snag as he’s landed on the concussion protocol.

This currently leaves James Carpenter, Matt Hennessy, and Matt Gono in the on-field mix to win the camp battle for left guard. Our staff recently weighed in on who we think should enter the season as the starter.

Beasley’s priorities

We’ve long wondered about where football really fit in Vic Beasley’s life. After the Falcons picked up his $13 million option, and with Dan Quinn vowing to work with him one-on-one in the offseason, Beasley opted instead to skip optional practices. Now with the Tennessee Titans and on the non-football injury list for failing to report, we may have some clarity on Vic Beasley’s priorities.

SI’s Peter King reports that Beasley’s true aim is to become a pastor at a large church — and the Falcons apparently knew this before they picked up his fifth-year option.

Player profiles

Our offseason series looking at the individual players on the Atlanta Falcons continues with an evaluation of recently added versatile linebacker Deone Bucannon. While Bucannon isn’t expected to be penciled in as one of the Falcons’ starters, he is a veteran depth piece that should be considered the next-man-up if needed.
