Report: Falcons rookie C Matt Hennessy expected to sign contract this evening

The 3rd round center out of Temple may compete for the starting left guard job in training camp.

The Atlanta Falcons have yet to sign any of their 2020 draft class, but that will be reportedly changing very soon.

Vaughn McClure of ESPN is reporting that Falcons rookie center Matt Hennessy is expected to sign his contract tonight.

It was only a matter of time until rookies begun to sign their contracts as they are slated to report on July 21, with training camp officially beginning on July 28. The recent news that the NFL and NFLPA have agreed on daily testing also provides some positive news for the hopeful start to an NFL season on time.

Hennessy was selected by the Falcons with the 78th overall pick in the most recent NFL Draft. He’s listed at 6’3, 307 lbs and brings good size and flexibility to the Falcons offensive line where he can play both center and guard. At Temple, Hennessy was named First-team All-AAC and was a finalist for the Rimington Trophy honoring the best center’s in college football.

Last week, Hennessy told The Falcoholic “My role will be along the interior offensive line, with an emphasis on position flexibility.” This checks out with McClure’s statement of Hennessy starting at left guard, a position which is currently up for grabs in Atlanta, but the flexibility may also come in to play if he’s a top backup at center adn guard. More rookie signings are expected to take place soon and this one will likely be official before long, so stay tuned to The Falcoholic for more.

Update: The lineman has posted a photo of him signing what should be his first NFL deal.
