The Falcons have selected have continued addressing defense with their second fourth round selection of the afternoon, this time picking California Safety Jaylinn Hawkins to shore up the safety depth.
Hawkins has very good size at the safety position but his speed is nothing to write home about. What ended up making him successful in college ball were his superior instincts. He figures to be a contributor on Special Teams in year one.
Hawkins played four years at Cal and registered 156 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, 10 interceptions, and seven passes defensed.
The Atlanta Falcons have addressed defense with four of their five selections - they have gotten their starting cornerback, their starting defensive tackle, their starting linebacker, and now a key depth piece at the safety position. The only offensive selection thus far fills a need along the interior of the offensive line.
You can’t say that the Falcons haven’t hit their needs hard in this year’s draft.
