Rejoice: It’s 2020 NFL Draft Day. An excruciatingly long wait has finally come to a close, and tonight we find out who the Falcons will bring into the fold. Read on for Thursday’s Falcoholinks.
Smoke/Fire
The trade rumblings have gotten progressively louder over the last few days, so nobody should be shocked if the Falcons elect to jump up in the draft order tonight. If Atlanta makes the leap from No. 16, who would be their target?
Mel Kiper has suggested that the Falcons are angling for a swap with the Jaguars at No. 9 for Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson. Atlanta has been increasingly linked to Henderson of late, and Kiper believes that he will not make it past the Las Vegas Raiders at 12.
Regardless of the moves the Falcons decide to make this evening, the 2020 NFL Draft is shaping up to be pivotal for Thomas Dimitroff’s future in Atlanta.
A final scouting report
It’s a given that the Falcons are going to focus heavily on the defensive side of the ball in the draft, but could they elect to address the safety spot early on? Our Eric Robinson dropped his scouting report on Minnesota’s Antoine Winfield Jr, a playmaker in the secondary who should be on Atlanta’s radar.
The Falcoholic Podcast
On this episode of The Falcoholic Podcast, hosts Jeanna Thomas and David Walker are joined by Stranger Things actor and Falcons fan Randy Havens for some draft talk and why the team owes it to Matt Ryan and Julio Jones to add the right players. Give the episode a listen right here.
Running backs on the roster
With the offseason addition of Todd Gurley, the running back spot is not as much of a need heading into the draft, but still a position they choose to address with an eye to the future. We took a look at the current running backs on the roster to assess the situation at the position ahead of the draft.
Drawing draft interest
Much of the rumors circulating over the past week have focused on the Falcons’ desire to trade up for a cornerback, but we obtained some information from a league source that points to Atlanta’s interest in Colorado linebacker Davion Taylor.
Roundtable mock draft
The staff here at The Falcoholic have been working our way through a mock draft, and yesterday we dropped our predictions for the third round.
