With the decision to keep the current regime in place, Atlanta’s “we’re not out of money but we’re letting Austin Hooper and De’Vondre Campbell walk” routine, the exciting and unexpected signings of Dante Fowler and Todd Gurley, and the cuts for Devonta Freeman and Desmond Trufant, it’s been a whiplash-inducing offseason for the Falcons.
Given that, and given that the initial flurry of free agent moves seems to be dying down, I thought I’d take the temperature of the fanbase via the site’s Twitter account. With the votes still rolling in, it appears most fans think Atlanta deserves a B grade for their transactions thus far.
What grade would you give the Falcons offseason thus far?

Is that a fair grade given what we’ve seen to this point? That likely depends on how big of a loss you think Trufant is, in part, as many fans mentioned that they would’ve given Atlanta an A without that move, which blew a big hole in the cornerback group. It also likely depends on whether you’re a huge fan of the Todd Gurley signing (I like it but I’m extremely worried about his health and effectiveness) and Dante Fowler signing (I like it but I’m worried last year will prove to be a bit of a fluke). If you’re on board with those moves and weren’t crushed by the loss of Hooper or Campbell, the team has largely shed contracts responsibly and has done a great job picking up affordable, quality depth to this point.
I’d give them a C until we see Gurley and Fowler in action for this team and we get through the draft, but I do think a team that couldn’t do anything right through much of last year is finding its way in a critical 2020. Let’s see if they can build on what they’ve started.
