Falcoholinks: All the Falcons news you need for Monday, Feb. 24

It’s Combine time.

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars at Atlanta Falcons Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The 2020 Underwear Olympics have arrived, with on-field drills taking place later on in the week. Lots of Combine talk and Austin Hooper news and thoughts in Monday’s edition of Falcoholinks.

Resetting the market

The Falcons are going to have to get really creative if they have a shot at bringing back Pro Bowl tight end Austin Hooper, and if one analyst’s word is truly representative of the market for Hoop’s services, it’s going to get pricey.

Our staff weighed in on the likelihood that Hooper is back with the Falcons next year.

DBs and draft history

With the 2020 NFL Combine kicking off this week and the Falcons looking to bolster their secondary, we take a look back at the cornerbacks and the safeties that have been drafted under the current regime.

Snack time?

The Lions recently released run-stopping defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison, and you have to believe that the Falcons are interested. Atlanta has brought in a number of run stoppers in recent years, and while Harrison had the worst season of his career in 2019, he still has a track record of being an extremely effective interior defender.

Prospect preview: Edge rushers & defensive tackles

The pending departure of Vic Beasley means that the Falcons will be looking to bolster the edge of their defensive line — potentially as early as the first round. Kevin Knight continues his Combine preview, focusing on the EDGE rushers that may interest Atlanta.

He also dropped his preview of defensive tackle prospects that could accompany Grady Jarrett on the interior.

Koetter on the hot seat

I’m still coming to terms with the fact that the Falcons willfully elected to bring Dirk Koetter back for 2020, but it’s a reality we’re all going to have to accept. But should Koetter falter early next season, how hot is his seat as Atlanta’s offensive coordinator?
