That was ... not fun. At 4-8, the Falcons won’t manage a winning season for the third year in a row. The offense couldn’t look blander, and the defense got embarrassed by Taysom “I hate it when Sean yells” Hill. Lovely.
Because these are the Falcons and when things go wrong, they have to go really wrong, there were a number of noteworthy injuries today. Let’s break ‘em down.
Ricardo Allen was knocked out of today’s game with a concussion. He sustained the concussion about halfway through the 4th quarter and was initially hit with a “questionable” designation as they evaluated him for a head injury. But the Falcons quickly ruled him out, with Sharrod Neasman taking his spot. And shortly after Allen went down, Jacob Tuioti-Mariner suffered a neck injury, earning a questionable designation.
Julio Jones managed to play today, but he was definitely wasn’t 100 percent. At one point during the second half, he was slow to get up and limped to the sideline. In short, he’s playing hurt, which should come as a surprise to absolutely no one.
Ito Smith appeared to suffer a concussion late in the game as well, but the team was light on details about his status. Raheem Morris alluded to him going down in his presser, but the severity of the injury was less than clear. Ito has a bad history of head injuries, so don’t be shocked if he’s done for the year. And to be frank, another concussion wouldn’t bode well for Ito’s career moving forward.
