The Falcons actually put together a solid defensive performance against the Chiefs, but another shoddy day by the offense and an unexpected field goal miss by Younghoe Koo doomed Atlanta. Read on for a recap and more in today’s Falcoholinks.
Falcons - Chiefs recap
In a year without mercy and losing in ways that seem unimaginable, the Falcons put another wild loss notch on their belt against the Chiefs. With Atlanta looking to even the score and head to overtime, Younghoe Koo’s field goal missed wide right to hand Kansas City the 17-14 win. The Falcons are now 4-11 and one game away from entering an offseason filled with top-down change.
With their win yesterday, Kansas City moved the all-time series to 7-3 over Atlanta.
It was already a lost cause prior to this match-up, but the Falcons entered Arrowhead with an augmented offensive game plan, looking to prioritize the ground game and achieve a more balanced attack. It was working early on, as Ito Smith was averaging around six yards a carry — and then the Falcons moved away from the ground game in the second half.
Atlanta now sits at No. 3 on the draft board with Cincy’s win over Houston and Carolina’s win over Washington.
An expanded season
After suffering through the 2020 Falcons season, naturally what you want more of is Atlanta Falcons games. No? Well, the NFL whole-heartedly disagrees with you, as the league is poised to add a 17th game next season.
If it sounds like a terrible idea it’s because it is, and appears purely driven by financial interest. Consequentially, the NFL will eliminate one preseason game to allow for the expanded season.
