The Falcons lead the series history over the Buccaneers 28-25. It hasn’t all been pretty—it likely won’t be pretty this year, either—but Atlanta’s managed some very impressive wins against Tampa Bay over the years.
That happens to be the subject of today’s discussion. What is your favorite Falcons memory, be it a solitary moment or an entire game?
For me, having seen more than a couple of blowout wins in my life, it’s the 2014 56-14 victory for the Falcons that stands out the most. In a lost, largely forgettable season, Atlanta absolutely thumped the immortal Mike Glennon and his hapless team, with Matt Ryan completing 21 of 24 passes for 3 touchdowns, Julio Jones reeling in 9 catches for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Devin Hester scoring a punt return touchdown, a rushing touchdown, and snagging a pass for 25 yards. It was an unrelenting beatdown and is probably my only positive memory from that miserable season.
It’s especially fun to remember that now because the Falcons are about to play the Buccaneers, and a 56-14 destruction of the Bucs again during a season of change for Atlanta would be extremely funny. It’s not going to happen, mind you, but I sure would enjoy it.
What would be your choice here?
