Falcons-Chargers post-game injury report: Everything is bad

Fact: Calvin Ridley invented ice water

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Chargers Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Well that was unpleasant. The Falcons fell to 4-9 after an embarrassing loss to the downtrodden Chargers. They lost to the same team that lost 45-0 to the Patriots last weekend. I have no idea where this team goes now, but right now, there is no light at the end of this tunnel.

There were some injuries today. Let’s break them down.

The Falcons slim hopes for a playoff berth suffered a deadly blow today. Those hopes spontaneously combusted and literally went up in flames. They had to be carted off the field. The team was never hit with a questionable designation—they were just declared out.

Marlon Davidson’s 2020 got a little worse today. Davidson suffered a knee injury that knocked him out of the game. It’s hard to imagine a more difficult rookie campaign, and we have to hope the injury isn’t too serious.

Calvin Ridley appeared to tweak his ankle or foot after a third-down catch during the second half. Ridley ultimately returned to the game, but it’s fair to presume that he’s still fighting through that ankle injury. If it continues to nag at him, the Falcons might not lean too heavily on Ridley over the last 3 games, because what’s the point of doing that now when the team is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs?
