It’s week 14, and the Atlanta Falcons are set to travel out west to face the Los Angeles Chargers. The team does have some significant injuries, as it was already announced earlier in the day that wide receiver Julio Jones will not play on Sunday due to a lingering hamstring injury.
The team released its official practice report for Friday, giving us insight into where certain players stand health-wise.
FULL PARTICIPATION
- RB Ito Smith (neck)
- LB Foye Oluokun (neck)
- DE Jacob Tuioti-Mariner (neck)
- P Sterling Hofrichter (right hamstring)
- FB Keith Smith (neck)
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
- S Keanu Neal (ankle)
- DE Dante Fowler (hamstring)
- TE Hayden Hurst (ankle)
- DT Grady Jarrett (groin)
NO PARTICIPATION
- RB Todd Gurley (knee)
- WR Julio Jones (hamstring) OUT
- S Ricardo Allen (concussion) OUT
- G James Carpenter (groin) OUT
- OT Kaleb McGary (personal matter) QUESTIONABLE
Although he’s listed as a non-participant for Friday’s practice, running back Todd Gurley is expected to play. He generally receives a rest day late in the week, so this isn’t anything out of the ordinary. We knew Jones would be out, but the team will also be without Ricardo Allen who is recovering from a concussion and James Carpenter who is dealing with a groin injury. An unexpected addition to the practice report was Kaleb McGary, who has a personal matter which has him listed as questionable for Sunday. That will be something to monitor, as McGary’s replacement would likely be John Wetzel who is listed behind him on the team’s depth chart.
Expect to also see Justin McCray make another start at left guard. The Falcons didn’t need any injuries to make the road ahead difficult, but minus three starters on Sunday, it’ll be interesting to see how they respond.
