The Falcons offense had a day against the Denver Broncos. With that unit missing their two best corners, Atlanta took advantage and put up 34 points in the process. Here’s who stood out on the offensive side of the ball.
Olamide Zaccheus
Targeted 6 times with 4 receptions for 103 yards and 1 touchdown, Olamide made his biggest impact ever in a regular season game. He was phenomenal early on and it’s clear that Matt Ryan felt comfortable targeting him early. His touchdown was a beautiful pass combined with amazing concentration. If he can keep this up, he could work his way into a more prominent role going forward.
Matt Ryan
Ryan has looked far more like himself over the past several weeks after some rough games to start the season. He completed 25 of his 35 attempts for 284 yards, 3 touchdowns and just one interception. His pocket presence has been phenomenal and he’s getting more and more comfortable picking up yards on the ground, though none of us should hope for that to be a regular occurrence.
Julio Jones
Again, the stats here won’t tell the whole story. With Calvin Ridley out, Julio was definitely going to see more double teams. Yet, he was able to pull in 5 catches for 54 yards and a touchdown that broke the hips of the corner assigned to stick with him. He commanded so much attention that guys like Olamide and Christian Blake were able to benefit.
The offensive line
Don’t freak out but this unit may finally be coming together. Kaleb McGary and Chris Lindstrom have been very good on the right side in recent weeks and the pass blocking has been exceptional the past few weeks. Once the running game becomes more consistent, this is a unit that could rank in the top 10 in the league.
