It got scary late, but the Falcons managed to withstand a late-game comeback attempt from the Broncos to secure their first home win of the season 34-27. More on the game and other Falcons news and narratives in Monday’s edition of Falcoholinks.
Falcons - Broncos recap
The Falcons seemed to be cruising to a victory over the Broncos led by an impressive offensive showing — one that did not slow down even in the absence of wide receiver Calvin Ridley. But the The Falconing started to happen.
They would eventually seal the deal, but this game was much closer than it needed to be; and without a couple of clutch defensive plays, Atlanta could have easily blown another game late.
We had some concern ahead of this one about Atlanta’s offensive line’s ability to protect Matt Ryan, but he put together one of his finest games of the season, going 25-35 for 284 yards and three touchdowns and one interception. With the win, Atlanta moves the all-time history between these two teams to 7-9.
Darqueze Dennard returns
Atlanta’s secondary got a boost with the return of corner Darqueze Dennard, and in his first game back after a stint on injured reserve he made a clutch defensive play that may have saved the game. To make room for Dennard, the Falcons have placed corner Jordan Miller on IR.
