Falcoholinks: All the Falcons news you need for Wednesday, Nov. 4

Fact: Takk McKinley

Happy Wednesday, Falcholics! It’s a brand new day. In 4 days, the 2-6 Falcons will take on the 3-4 Broncos in a game with monumental playoff implications. Obviously I’m kidding, because let’s be honest, Falcons-Bronco’s viewership won’t come close to matching that of last year’s Puppy Bowl.

Our links are always fresh and never frozen.

The Falcoholic Podcast is highlighting each year of the Thomas Dimitroff era. It’s a tall task, and we wish David Walker and company luck. Evan Birchfield highlighted some interesting stats worth considering following the Week 8 win over the Panthers. Give his piece a read, if you have a moment.

Dave Choate broke down the mid-season snap counts for us. And I have to say, I’m happy to see Deion Jones playing solid football and getting in on 95 percent of the Falcons’ defensive snaps. The Falcons handed him a 4-year extension worth $57 million ($34 million guaranteed) before the 2019 season for a reason. Jones is 2+ years removed from foot injury that limited him to 6 games in 2018, and he’s looking like his old self again.

The Falcons apparently wanted a 4th round pick in exchange for Takk McKinley and couldn’t find any suitors. Shocking ... said nobody ever. Look, Takk is a bit underrated and just hasn’t produced the sack totals you’d like to get from a first round edge. But he’s a valuable rotational piece, albeit one that’s struggled to stay healthy. Who has been the Falcons’ offensive player of the year through 8 games? A couple of names probably come to mind, and I’d bet a certain wide receiver and a certain franchise quarterback came to mind.

That’s all for today, Falcoholics. Have a good one.
