The Falcons face off with the Saints on Sunday in one of the biggest rivalries in the NFL. However, today’s game will look a lot different than normal. Drew Brees has been moved to injured reserve with multiple broken and fractured ribs and a punctured lung. Different from last season where a young Teddy Bridgewater filled in on a conservative offense, this year it is Taysom Hill despite the signing of Jameis Winston.
With other big names out, such as Marshon Lattimore as previously reported, the Saints may look a big more like a preseason team than a fiercely competitive playoff contender. However, the division rivalry means we will almost certainly see a game closer than you would otherwise predict.
For the Falcons, there is not much out of the blue. The Falcons elevated Kurt Benkert, likely due to a team attempting to sign him (such as the Saints, who eventually added Trevor Siemian), but he is predictably inactive. The remainder are familiar names to the inactive list.
- QB Kurt Benkert
- RB Qadree Ollison
- CB Tyler Hall
- OT John Wetzel
- DT Deadrin Senat
We can probably just put a fork in Senat and Ollison. They have had ample opportunity to show their worth yet still can’t get playing time under two different coaches.
For the Saints, we already knew the big news.
- CB Marshon Lattimore
- LB Chase Hansen
- OL Derrick Kelly
- TE Josh Hill
- RB Dwayne Washington
- DL Malcolm Roach
Lattimore is the notable player here who typically shadows Julio Jones. With Lattimore out, the Saints will need to be very creative in trying to slow down Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Hayden Hurst. Considering their starting quarterback, the Saints need some miracles on defense.
