Falcons vs. Panthers odds: Atlanta tabbed as underdogs in Week 8 road contest

The Falcons are not a good football team right now. Sure, they have the talent to be more competitive than they have been during the first half, but it’s clear they are not sufficiently equipped to be elite, especially on defense. We’ll just have to endure the head coach and GM searches. And then we’ll sit around and wait for the front office to fix the personnel issues and the coaching staff to implement schemes that, ya know, work. But that’s just how this goes, isn’t it? It’s our turn now.

Setting aside the doom and gloom for a moment, the Falcons still have 9 more games in their 2020 campaign. They face off against the Panthers on Thursday Night Football in a game that’s sure to disappoint, one way or another. If Christian McCaffrey doesn’t play, which is looking like a distinct possibility, then the Falcons may actually pull off a win, which will be equal parts exciting and maddening, I’m sure.

As of Monday night, the Falcons are tabbed by Draftkings Sportsbook as 2.5 point underdogs. The over/under is set at 49. This makes sense, given the less than inspired football the Falcons have played this season. The Panthers are playing for a chance to get back to .500, but the Falcons have had their number over the last several years, racking up an 8-2 record against them during that stretch.

For what it’s worth, the Panthers are 4-3 against the spread this season. The Falcons are 2-5 against the spread in 2020, including a 1-4 stretch over their last 5 games. Weirdly enough, the Falcons have beat the spread in 6 of their last 7 road games.
