Previewing Sunday’s clash with the Lions and more in Thursday’s edition of Falcoholinks!
Falcons - Lions on deck
The Falcons head back home after their first win of the season, and they’re poised to take on another NFC North foe in the Detroit Lions. The Lions have been the definition of mediocre in 2020, but last week notwithstanding, the Falcons have been abysmal.
With their convincing win over the Vikings, however, the Falcons are now favored by 2.5 points on Sunday, the first time they’ve had the edge in Vegas in weeks. That line will likely shift, as Julio Jones did not practice on Wednesday — but we have little reason to think his availability on Sunday is in jeopardy.
Matt Ryan takes home NFC Offensive Player of the Week Honors
Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan put together his best game of the season on Sunday, going 30 for 40 for 371 passing yards and four touchdowns. For that performance he takes home Week 6’s NFC Offensive Player of the Week award, the 9th time he’s garnered that honor.
Charting the downfall
Allen Strk is back with the second iteration of his series that details the eventual collapse of the Quinn/Dimitroff regime in Atlanta.
A late-round gem
The Falcons have hit on some late-round draft picks of late, and this season’s breakout sixth-round pick is unquestionably linebacker Foyesade Oluokun. In his first full year as a starter alongside Deion Jones, Oluokun has simply seized the opportunity. His highlights are hard to miss, which have included his three forced fumbles against Dallas and his 12 solo tackles against Carolina.
