One would be forgiven for not believing in the Falcons 2020 defense. After being one of the worst units in the league after 5 games they finally found their stride in a dominant performance on the road against the Vikings. Who was the critical piece of that unit? Vote for your choice below.
Deion Jones
The centerpiece of the linebacking corps finally bounced back. Deion Jones has struggled this season, being overpassed by the impressive performances of Foye Oluokun as of late, but he finally showed why he can’t be overlooked. He started the defensive dominance with an interception of Kirk Cousins on the first drive of the game and he was all over the field throughout the game. He showed his athleticism with the INT and 3 pass deflections. It was good to see the star linebacker live up to the billing.
A.J. Terrell
It’s tough to be a rookie cornerback in the NFL. Doubly so when you’re facing a pandemic. Terrell netted his first NFL interception on a play that helped turn the tide of the game. He also shut down Adam Thielen for most of the game, showing his potential is unlimited at this point.
Keanu Neal
The veteran safety may not have notched a ton of impressive stats (5 tackles, 2 for a loss) but his presence was known. He repeatedly hit Vikings players - including Kirk cousins twice - so hard that they thought twice about crossing the middle of the field. He’s had a rough year but it was fun to see him hitting like a Mack truck again.
Allen Bailey
For a player that’s been invisible for most of the season, Bailey bounced back nicely in week 6. With a sack and a tackle for loss, Bailey was disruptive in all the right ways. He knocked Cousins onto his backside a few times and did so when the team needed it the most. It’s nice to see the veteran delivering in key moments.
