The Falcons offense put up 40 on the road against a respectable Vikings defense. While the Vikings were missing some key players, the Atlanta offense took advantage and kicked off the post-Dan Quinn era in impressive fashion. Let’s take a look at the candidates for player of the game on offense.
Matt Ryan
In a week where Ryan was the subject of trade talks nationally and within the fanbase, he bounced back in an incredible way. He finished 30 of 40 for 371 yards and 4 touchdowns. More importantly, he looked confident and his throws had plenty of zip. Any inclinations that his physical tools were deteriorating were put to rest as he put together his best game of the season. He also further put himself into rare company:
Matt Ryan is the fourth player in NFL history to complete 75% of his passes for 350+ yards, 4+ touchdowns and 0 interceptions in multiple games.

Julio Jones
The legendary future Hall of Fame receiver continued to add to his resume. Even with an ailing hamstring, the top tier option pulled in 8 catches for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns. While Julio may not be the guy he once was every single week, he’s still one of the best in the league. His impressive performance is a testament to his incredible ability and the chemistry he has with Matt Ryan, and it was evident he made everyone’s job easier Sunday.
Calvin Ridley
Ridley continued to build on his blossoming resume with 6 catches for 61 yards and another touchdown. He’s had to carry the weight of the receiving game the last few weeks, but with Julio demanding attention again, Calvin continued to deliver. He’s quickly becoming a top tier target with a future as a Falcons all-star.
Dirk Koetter
I’m the biggest critic of offensive coordinator Dirk Kotter, but it’s hard to argue with 40 points on the road. He called a far better game than he has all season and his use of play action was on-point throughout the game. Even though it’s unlikely he survives this season with the team, he put in his best game yet.
