The Falcons took their frustration out on the Vikings and came away with its first notch in the win column with a 40-23 victory in Minnesota. We recap the game and more in Monday’s edition of Falcoholinks.

Falcons - Vikings recap

Raheem Morris’s first game as the Falcons head coach also brought Atlanta its first win — in dominating fashion. They were in control for the entirety of this one, and save for the meltdowns in previous games, there was little reason to believe they would not come away with a win under their belt.

The Falcons’ defense looked completely reinvigorated, flying all over the field and forcing turnovers. We zeroed in on Deion Jones as one of the players to watch in this one, and he set the tone early with his interception of Kirk Cousins on the first pass of the game.

Oh, and Matt Ryan had a hell of a game himself.

It’s an obvious open question on what yesterday’s showing means for Atlanta as the season moves along, but they’re currently 1-0 under Raheem Morris.

Injuries

This was another nice change of pace for the Atlanta Falcons, as they emerged from the win relatively healthy. Calvin Ridley briefly left the game to be evaluated for cramps but would return late in the third quarter, and tight end Hayden Hurst took a shot to the thigh and also returned.

Julio setting records

With his opening drive touchdown reception, Julio Jones moved into the No. 2 spot in Atlanta history with 58. He was previously tied with Falcons great Terance Mathis, but now only stands behind Roddy White, who recorded 63 touchdown receptions in his Atlanta career.
