Here’s a rare treat: The Falcons have a player up for FedEx Air & Ground Player of the Week, and it’s actually a player who did something great on the ground.
You can vote for Todd Gurley, who is coming off a 100-plus yard day on a tidy 14 carries, right here. He’s the most deserving choice this week by the virtue of the efficiency of his performance, and also because the rest of the Falcons offense was so abysmal that he really shouldn’t have even had the opportunity to do what he did. It was a potent effort by both Gurley and the offensive line, and hopefully not the last terrific performance we’ve seen from him this year. I would like to enjoy watching Falcons football at times.
While Gurley got off to a somewhat slow start, he’s rolling right now. All told, the veteran back has 79 carries for 375 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground, and hopefully more involvement in the passing game given that he has just 8 catches on the year thus far. In a bleak season, Gurley is proving to be a legitimate attraction and the rare signing that has worked out well. This was the best Falcons running back effort since Tevin Coleman ran the ball 11 times for 145 yards and a touchdown against the Cardinals back in Week 14 of 2018, in terms of pure yardage and impact.
Vote for Gurley and hopefully he can keep the good times rolling against the Vikings.
