The NFL playoffs are underway, and sadly so is the Atlanta Falcons’ offseason. Dive in to Monday morning’s Falcoholinks for the news and notes you may have missed over the weekend.

Promotions and firings

The Falcons made a couple of coaching moves last week, choosing to promote linebackers coach Jeff Ulbrich to assistant head coach (and keeping him in his current role leading the LBs). The team has decided to move on from defensive passing game coordinator Jerome Henderson and assistant defensive line coach Travis Jones.

2020 roster preview: Quarterbacks

Matt Ryan is of course slated to head into the 2020 Atlanta Falcons season as the starting quarterback, but what will the situation look like behind him?

The Falcons can bring back Matt Schaub on a team option should they elect to roll with a veteran backup, or they could throw us all a curveball and choose to rely on the young arm of Kurt Benkert.

Failing to improve

The Falcons are, for some bizarre reason cloaked in a continuity excuse, choosing to bring back offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter. If that prospect confounds you, you’re not alone — and it will further infuriate you to know that Koetter’s offenses have historically failed to improve after his first year.

Senat has surgery

While the team has yet to formally announce anything, due to some social media lurking we found out that defensive tackle Deadrin Senat underwent an unspecified surgery last week.

Senat posted a video after the procedure and appeared to be in good spirits. We’ll keep you posted if and when we receive any update.

Urgent needs

With free agency on the horizon and the 2020 NFL Draft a few months away, the Falcons have some definite needs to fill. What are the team’s biggest areas of concern heading into next season?
