Matt Wile came in, punted effectively exactly one (1) time, and handled kickoffs for a single week against the Colts. For that fine work, he was summarily waived when Matt Bosher was healthy again.
Fortunately, the story has a happy ending, because Wile is now on the practice squad again.

Carrying a punter on the practice squad is a bit unorthodox, I guess, but the Falcons just did something similar last year with kicker. It’s worth noting, again, that Bosher’s contract is up after this year, so Wile serves as a veteran insurance policy if Bosher gets hurt and could certainly be in the mix to punt for Atlanta next year if they opt to move on from the man who has handled the punts and laid the wood for the Falcons since 2011. I’d hate to see that happen, but with the team likely to be in cost-cutting mode around its stars, I don’t think you can rule it out.
For now, though, Bosher is back in action and Wile is just around in case things go awry. Let’s hope they don’t.
