Falcoholinks: All the Falcons news you need for Tuesday, Sept. 24th

Fact: Matt Ryan has a pet spider monkey named “Scorpion”

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Indianapolis Colts Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Tuesday, Falcons fans! If you’re still with us, it means you haven’t jumped ship ... yet. Well we’re glad you’ve made the decision to stick with us, notwithstanding the bumpy start to the season.

Feeling a bit nauseous? Indigestion? Heartburn? Links will cure ya!

The game that wasn’t

It’s hard to make sense of Sunday’s loss, but that’s what we do here. Dave Choate gave it the old college try. Allen Strk didn’t mince words in his frank assessment of the game. Yours truly highlighted some of the best and worst individual performances. Against all odds, David Walker actually found a silver lining, highlighting the offensive and defensive players of the game. Jeanna Thomas talked penalties, which the Falcons are collecting like souvenir tea spoons. Last but not least, Kevin Knight questions the questionable performance.

Don’t leave us, Keanu

We’re still reeling from Keanu Neal’s season-ending achilles tear. The Falcons will do their best to plug and play, but when you’re talking about a player of Neal’s caliber, that’s no easy task. Sharrod Neasman and Kemal Ishmael are likely to usurp most of Neal’s snaps, but according to Matt Chambers, there’s one additional internal option worth considering. Or, as Dave Choate suggested, the Falcons could look outside the organization.

NFC South shenanigans

The Falcons came into Sunday’s game in a three-way tie for first place in the NFC South. Instead of capitalizing on injuries to Drew Brees and Cam Newton, the Falcons got their butts handed to them in Indianapolis. Meanwhile, both the Saints and the Panthers pulled off wins. For what it’s worth, Buccaneers kicker Matt Gay muffed a go-ahead field goal with less than a minute to play, handing the Giants their first win of the season. Adnan Ikic broke down all the NFC South games here.

This and that

The Falcons quickly moved on from Matt Wile, who filled in for Matt Bosher during the latter Matt’s one week absence. Ricardo Allen was not happy about some questionable officiating during the first quarter of Sunday’s loss. And Adnan Ikic talked fantasy performances.
