The Atlanta Falcons have waived punter Matt Wile from the roster, which is a good sign for Matt Bosher’s health this week.

It was a faster-than-expected recovery for the Falcons’ veteran punter, who has now missed just two games in his career with Atlanta...and had Matt Wile fill in both times.

Matt Wile signed with the Falcons practice squad following Matt Bosher’s groin tightness which occurred prior to the Sunday Night Football matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles in week 2. Wile got the start in the week 3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, where he had one punt for 39 yards and handled kickoffs. Wile previously stepped in for Bosher due to an injury in 2016, where he had two punts for 116 yards, and was effective for the Vikings in 2018 as he averaged 45.2 yards per punt in 16 games, with one of those punts blocked.

Wile did a fine job stepping in for the Falcons both times, but the cut makes it obvious that Bosher will return for the upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans. It’s possible that the team could try and re-stash Wile on the practice squad if they have any lingering concerns about his injury, especially with a practice squad player potentially coming up to the roster with Keanu Neal headed to injured reserve. Bosher has punted 6 times this year for 248 yards.
