Another day, another edition of the Falcons injury report. Unfortunately, as each day grinds by and we continue to see reports that key players are sidelined or limited, we’re getting a little more nervous about Week 3.
Today, that’s specifically Matt Bosher and Keanu Neal. Luke Stocker was a full participant—hooray—while Matt Gono, Kaleb McGary, and Kenjon Barner were all limited. The team can weather the loss of Barner and Gono for the week, if they must, but obviously we’re hopeful McGary can be out there. If he’s not, the Falcons at least do have Ty Sambrailo, who hasn’t been a colossal liability to this point.
Thursday Falcons injury report:
— Jason Butt (@JasonHButt) September 19, 2019
Full Participation: TE Luke Stocker (foot)
Limited Participation: S Keanu Neal (groin), RB Kenjon Barner (ankle), T Matt Gono (back), T Kaleb McGary (knee)
Did Not Participate: P Matt Bosher (right groin)
Things are different for Neal and Bosher. Neal is a critically important member of the secondary, and while I’m about as big of a Kemal Ishmael and Sharrod Neasman fan as you’ll find, neither of them are going to be able to approximate what Neal brings to the table against an offense that figures to run and throw to tight ends quite a lot. Bosher is, of course, the team’s punter, and if he’s out the Falcons have to turn to Matt Wile, who did well for them but has bounced around the NFL for a while. Ideally, they’ll both be close to 100% and out there, but I think particularly in Bosher’s case that might be wishful thinking.
Stay tuned for the Friday injury report, which always gives us a little more clarity.
