Hey Falcoholics, following a week 2 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles, it’s time to select the “Brother of the Week.” The “Brother of the Week” highlights an Atlanta Falcons player who displayed selflessness and gave their all for the team, which fits what Dan Quinn is always saying he’s looking for from this football team. Last week’s selection was defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.
Without further ado, the Brother of the Week for week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles is offensive tackle Jake Matthews.
Jake Matthews played well in the Sunday Night Football matchup, as did the rest of the Falcons offensive line. What won him this week’s selection was the impactful block he made on the Julio Jones’ 54-yard touchdown. For those that missed it, Matthews delivered a textbook, pancake-block on Eagles’ defensive back Avonte Maddox that broke Jones loose for the go-ahead touchdown. There were several players who honestly deserved this recognition, but Matthews’ block was arguably the most important.
Can we all take a second to give Jake Matthews credit for obliterating that Eagles defender on that play? pic.twitter.com/BZ0AQ7xLmR

With many questions exiting the week 1 loss against the Minnesota Vikings, it was welcomed to see the offensive line bounce back against a front as tough as the Philadelphia Eagles. Matthews played 100% of the Falcons offensive snaps and quarterback Matt Ryan was only sacked once throughout the game.
