Good afternoon Falcons fans!
I'm sure you've seen fan posts like this in past, sprinkled around various SB Nation team blogs. If you haven't, the title is fairly self-explanatory. With the coming matchup between our two teams, I give a brief overview of our team and leave the comments section up for any questions, comments, or general discussion about how much we hate the Patriots.
OFFENSE
Our two teams played each other week 1 of last season, coming off of successful 2017 campaigns, but 2018 wasn't as kind. The Eagles barely beat the Falcons 18-12 with Superbowl MVP Nick Foles under center. Now, the offensive outlook of the Eagles has been entirely revamped, with new faces at every position. The Eagles OL is still arguably the best in the NFL, they replaced Mike Wallace with DeSean Jackson as their deep threat, drafted Alshon Jeffery's clone in J.J. Arcega-Whiteside in the 2nd round, traded for Jordan Howard from the bears, drafted Miles Sanders, brought back serial ancient hobbit Darren Sproles back for another year, and Tight Ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert still make up a formidable duo in the center of the field. The Eagles only scored 7 points in the first half of their week 1 game versus the Redskins, but came out in the second firing on all cylinders, scoring 25 unanswered points, leading to a 32-27 victory.
DEFENSE
The Eagles vaunted defense has changed slightly since last season, but still brings back majority familiar faces. The DL is still known for it's depth and ability to rotate pass rushers, Malik Jackson was brought in to start next to Fletcher Cox, with Timmy Jernigan and Hassan Ridgeway as depth. Unfortunately, Jackson was injured in week 1 and will miss the rest of the 2019 season. Jernigan will start, and Akeem Spence was signed to fill the gaps. Defensive ends Michael Bennett and Chris Long are gone, while Vinny Curry and rookie Shareef Miller were brought in. Middle linebacker Jordan Hicks is now an Arizona Cardinal, and he has since been replaced with Zach Brown. The secondary remains mostly unchanged, aside from starting CB Jalen Mills still out on the PUP list. Safeties Andrew Sendejo and Jonathan Cyprien were signed as backups behind Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod, replacing Corey Graham and Tre Sullivan.
